Georgy Petrov

Born: September 17, 1954 in Studeno Buche, Montana

Georgi Petrov is the first European champion in Bulgaria in judo, who won the title at the championship in Debrecen in 1981.
And the first to win a medal for Bulgaria at the World Championships - bronze from Maastricht '85. In 1985, Petrov remained one step away from the world summit in Seoul - silver. In his career he has two more bronze medals from major championships. He twice participated in the Olympic Games - in Seoul '88 and Moscow '80, where he reached the repechages.

Two times winner of the Liberation tournament. World champion for veterans. He also had success in sambo - two times European champion (1982, 1986) and world runner-up (1979). He was named the most technical judoka in Bulgaria for the past century by the home federation.

After the end of his racing career he started coaching and founded his own club - "Ronin" (Sofia).
